Hi all!
Have recently purchased my first madza bongo 2.5 diesel aft 4x4 & just joined up as a bongofury newbie. I acquired it on a spur of the moment ebay buy it now purchase having never test drove one before, so i was taking a bit of a chance but luckily it drove the 150 miles home ok & looks spot on having been lowered with madza rx8 18" alloys fitted. My only concern is when parking it on the drive the engine/gearbox guard comes into contact with the apex at top of the steep drive. I'm told by the previous owner they are expensive after market jap import progressive springs type and my question is what would be the best way of going about raising the height or where could I buy replacement or original?

Welcome in Bikerider, you're in good company here. There are a fair few 2 wheel hooligans lurking around this site - I've got a Blackbird that gets a good seeing to (on sunny days) - a bike & a Bongo gives you the best of both worlds!! :D

Re the lowering prob, it suits some peeps depending on where you live, where you park up, local speed bumps (or lack of).

Many find the lowered look to work visually but be a practical pain in the @rse. Chances are someone may well do a straight swap for a standard set of springs.

Stick a thread up on the Stuff Wanted/Free Stuff/Swaps section & see if any local interest pops up.

Hi and welcome bikerider, I have ownerd a lowered Bongo for the past three years and also had the same problem as yourself and was considering going back to the original springs. however, I have since fitted Matt Savage (£99 easily fitted) air suspension to the rear of my van it has raised it slightly but just enough to allow me to reverse onto my drive without issue. Reason I chose not to go back to the original springs was first I prefer the lowered look and secondly I feel the van handles better sitting a bit lower on stiffer springs. Anyway all the best with your Bongo. Regards Geoff.

Welcome from yet another biker - bear in mind the RX8 wheels are designed for a vehicle weighing more than half a ton lighter than the Bongo.................check the load rating on the tyres are ok too, or your insurance company might just wave you goodbye :?
