Banging from top of the engine

Hi

Sadly this i smy first post, wish it was for better reasons but here goes.

There is now a loud tapping/banging noise that comes from what i think is thr rocker cover of the engine. It is there when the engine ticks over, and when you accelerate it gets louder and faster.

I have stopped driving it now for the fear of doing more damadge.

A friend has said it is possible that it is the cam shaft, but i know nothing about cars what so ever.

the car is MPV effini (says bongo on the log book) 2.5 TD auto.

If anyone can shed some light on this and a possible cause, and if it is fixable then please let me know.

Thanks for your time

Phil

We are in Monmouth South east wales. If it is the camshaft, is it expensive to replace and fit?

Along with Cooling problems the WL-T engine, is as Wokanoby says, known to break Camshafts........and both issues are NOT Bongo specifc as all vehicles that use the WL-T engine suffer the same problems....... so nowt wrong with the Bongo design and cooling system just the less than perfect diesel engine used.

Many WL-T engine users recommend a 40w oil to make sure the cam stays lubricated and protected....for when the motor gets hot...

Could just be a tappet that needs adjusting to take out the slack.

I took it to a garage and he had a look and a listen and said that its sounds like a cam issue.

Where would i get 1 from? (best place to?)

Thanks

I had my tappets adjusted in a garage in Edinburgh last month at a garage recommended to me by dandywarhol after Northern Bongolow told be that he thought that they were a tad noisy. Cost me £60.00, mechanic told me that he found that four of the tappets were a bit out.

It's definitely more than tappits, it is a very loud mechanical noise which sounds like a loud ticking noise at idle speed, even then everyone in the street can notice it..

when i drive it sounds like someone banging somthing metallic very quickly..
