Bongo Fury

Hi, The Bongo heater isnt working...not good in this weather! I thought it must be the heater fan resistor again and my son fitted a new one, but still not working. Fuses seem ok. Can anyone help Please Tammy cant stand the cold!

Need to use a process of elimination I guess. For example (assuming its the front heater fan):

1) Is blower working on any settings between 1 and 4 (if so, suspect resistor, as if the fan is 'tight' to turn it will always end up getting hot and desoldering its contacts) (if not, check relevant fuse - can't remember which it is but its in the factsheet I think)

2) Remove air scoop under bonnet (v. quick and easy) and see if fan is turning freely. If not, that needs addressing by a strip-down and lubricate (ooooh matron) etc..

3) try and connect 12v direct to fan, bypassing resistor etc. If fan doesn't turn, suspect bushes etc.

No doubt Kirsty will be along with more intelligent advice but that's my take on it anyway

THe fan moves freely
Ther doesnt appear to be any power going to new fan resistor
They are baffled

Hi Anna, if it's the fan not blowing, then I'd suspect the fan itself may well be siezed/sticking due to water ingress, especially if it hasn't been used much, that's usually the reason for the heater fan resistor goes in the first place, just replacing that doesn't fix the problem, just masks it for a while. Worth checking ALL the fuses if you haven't already, this thread - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... er#p465889 - shows where they are as well as the FAQ with all the links for checking & fixing the heater motor, not a difficult job for anyone with a bit of mechanical savvy. if you've got the manual slider heater controls, then the heater fan resistor is usually fixable if that's gone again.

Thanks Kirsty, It's a new resistor(in today), so I will tell them to check the fuses again as you suggested and the fact sheets thanks a lot

Good luck Anna. It can't be that tricky and it WILL get it sorted, I'm sure of that. Obviously check fuse first, but have they tried putting 12v direct to the fan motor in order to make sure it is working (its not impossible that the brushes are knackered - if so I seem to recall Stilldesparate successfully replaced brushes, or was it the springs on part-worn brushes, with some generic ones - worth a search on here for old threads while the blokes are freezing their grubby hands off doing hands-on )

Incidentally, the diagram, in the link that Kirsty posted, shows fuse 18 in the fusebox under the bonnet, but the factsheet shows fuse 17

Cheeky Beggar It's not me that needs the hot air(I cant get in Bongo ) Its Jimmy And Tammy. I get an enough of Jimmy's hot air So is it 17 or 18 ? I guess they could try both.

removable panel on the front fascia, to the right and down from the steering wheel column, from memory just above where the bonnet pull catch is. It has a gripping slot and just pulls off.

T'other ones are under the bonnet, roughly in the middle with a black clip off cover on.
