dandywarhol recommended to me GBL Motors of 16 Duff Street Mews, Edinburgh EH11 2HS tel. 0131 3378210. Ask for George senior. Maybe a bit too far for you unless you are on the east side of Glasgow.

Update on my problem!
Having spoken to a few people including the dealer I bought my bongo from, it would appear that the problem was the coolant tank lid was not on tightly enough and it was evaporating. The other issue regarding the smoke seems to have been an issue with the diesel. I didnt get it from my normal garage and since I refuelled a couple of days ago everything seems to be back to normal. I was a bit perplexed about the smoke because although there was loads of it belching out, the engine started first time, there was no chugging engine as described by others with the same issue. Had her out today for the first longish drive and everything was fine. No drop in coolant level. (yes I waited til the engine was cool before I checked)
Thanks to all for your suggestions. I will take note of the details given for future reference.
Annie!
