Bongo Fury

I've got a TomTom One which I use in the Bongo, but I'd like to free up the lighter socket.

Looking at the lighter adapter, it looks like it outputs 5V @ 2A.

What do I need to do to replace the adaptor so I can hard-wire the connection?

i rekon the easiest way and probably cheapest is use a socket splitter or wire a second socket, possibly hidden

I use a 5V 2Amp regulator pushed up behind the cabin light, and pick off the 12 volt unswitched power feed from the cabin spot lights feed;

You can also push a Hands Free mike socket cable up there as well and then have the Mic just stick out from the light case.
The feeds to the TomTom come down the window screen and with a couple of bits of velcro (hooks) on the cable they can then be stuck up on the cabin roof lining.

I hard wired a second double socket into the lighter loom, situated behind the panel under the steering wheel & ran the power cable to my Tomtom under dash coming out up under the A pillar...

You can just make the connector out here under the dial...!



I pull it out when in use fixing the sat nav above the dial & can retract it (as seen) when not in use... I hate trailing wires!

Plenty of room behind the A pillar trim to run the sat nav wire down unseen... Infact, from the cabin light with the A pillar trim, sun visor & top part of the door rubber removed wire can be run unseen across the head lining....

Yup, I guess it depends where you mount the TomTom, as I'm the Navigator in the passenger seat we have it in the middle of the screen just below the mirror, that way I can reach it ans SWMBO can see it

Yes if your happy adding the required decoupling capacitors etc, I actually used one of these and cut off the cigar lighter extension and just replaced it with a couple of wires to reach the Blue/red and black wires on the plug for the lights.

a slight adjustment to the 4.5 Voltage divider or add a series diode on the output and select 6Volts will do the trick, the TomTom 910 we have is much happier when run from 5.1-5.2 volts than from 5 volts. I think there still available from CPC http://cpc.farnell.com/_/mw284/dc-dc-co ... tt=PW01832 yes but they have gone up in price since I bought my pair!
