So after driving a few hours through snow blizzards I noticed the front left front fog had given up... the rubber seal at the back has come away and the whole thing filled with road sludge.

Ive taken it apart tonight and it looks quite corroded... Do I need to buy a whole new light or just the inner workings? Ive had a look on bongobits but cant find either...

cheers for advice...

Here's a pic: Image

Looks like you will need to get a new bulb holder - has the reflector corroded inside the lamp - best ask around if anyone has a damaged lamp and reuse the bits you require. remember the lamps are handed. :)

In the meantime it would probably clean up till a new lamp happens your way. You'll find the rust on the bulb shroud hardest to remove, so i'd replace the bulb. As long as the contact points of the bulb holder are clean the chances are it'll work ok. You can always tape up the old rubber boot to keep the worst of the crud at bay.

Oh... And don't forget NOT to touch the glass of the bulb if/when fitting a new one! Otherwise bulb life will seriously diminish!

How about taking the bulb out (if you can) and letting it rest in a spray can size cap of hot white vinegar. That might dissolve some of the rubbish around the holder.

Worth a shot, I've done it before on number plate holders and they came out like new.

Excellent news. I found once it cooled, use some fresh vinegar and an old toothbrush worked wonders.

That vinegar is amazing stuff, and at least it won't kill you with no nasty toxic stuff in it
