Automatic gearbox problem

Post by georgemonkey » Wed Jan 12, 2011 1:50 pm

I've had a problem 4 or 5 times recently. I put the stick into drive and the accelerator pedal is stuck and won't move. If I fiddle about with the gears a bit - go into reverse, park, etc, it is OK after several tries and I can move the accelerator. This has always happened when I am just setting off and the engine is cold, although since it has only happened a few times, I don't know whether that is coincidence. Can anyone suggest what is going an and how to fix it?

Bongo mechanics like Adrian in Bury are not expensive (and don't fix what doesn't need fixing - he does mine and its a pleasure dealing with him). Unless you are into DIY mechanics, it might be worth giving him a call?

Are you using the autobox in the correct way? When you start off from Park you are supposed to press the brake peddle when you engage either Drive or Reverse.

Hi georgemonkey,

Check the pedal stop on the floor is secure, check for obstructions behind the pedal pivot bracket and at the IP.

It might be the cable is frayed or needs lubricated.

Cheers Mal..

There is no physical link between the auto box & the throttle pedal. Your problem lays elsewhere as it is not possible for the transmission to effect the physical operation of the throttle pedal.
