Bongo Fury

Hi all,
The speedo/odometer on my 97 AFT stuck as it went through 100000 km.
I took the dash apart to try and free it and succeeded, however it is still playing up, sticks and the numbers seem to have trouble staying in line.
I would like to replace it so wanted to know if only option is to try and buy another used one to fit? What happens then regards keeping mileage as close to original as possible?
Also does anyone know where I can get a spare odometer unti for fitting to back of speedo unit?

has it been there before do you think .
the answer depends on what you have in it,and what you want to fit.
has yours been converted to a face over one,is it original.or you can fit a ga5r speedo(written on the face just around the needle spindle),if you go this route it will then read everything in miles,and be fairly accurate depending on your wheels and tyres.
i was fortunate i got a ga5r speedo out of a similar age british mada 626,it fits straight in,and the kms to miles difference once fitted was only a handfull of kms. your choice but all are available.
(i have a ga5r with 115670 miles on it, if thats any good to you.)

The thought did cross my mind over whether I had been first one to have opened up the dash, but have to hope that the import papers were all correct! Who knows!
The speedo currently has the converted face on it for MPH and I will need to check what type it is in daylight. Are you saying that the spare one you have will be straight swap and would read in miles? What sort of price would you be looking for?

If you fit the 626 speedo you will also have the trip meter in miles which is handy . The mileage on a 626 can be reset to the correct mileage quite easily using a small screwdriver to ease the wheels apart . I am sure that there is stuff on the web about how to do this this. Practice on your old speedo before trying it on the 626 Do NOT remove the face of the 626 to do this - work from the back of the clock

Thanks for that, if 626 speedo can be re-adjusted then that will allow me to get the new one back to nearer the original.
