Poor starting V6

Hello Folks

Small problem, wonder if anyone can help?

We have an S reg 2.5 V6 petrol bongo. Under most conditions it starts first time no problem. However, if the weather is damp, drizzly and windy (Quite frequent here in north Cornwall), it can be very difficult to start, turning over for 6 to 10 seconds before firing! I'm pretty sure the HT leads must getting damp and causing a loss of spark. This morning, after several days standing in this weather, she wouldn't start at all!

Has anyone experienced similar problems?

Thanks

Steve

Try a damp spray on the leads, distributor cap etc.
If you lift the seat, can you see any sparking?

Try removing the distributor cap and rotor arm clean down and give a a blast of something like duck oil of wd40 wipe excess off with a cloth and do the same with ht leads

works well for most

If persist change the said parts

hope this helps Cheers Steve.

Thanks guys,

Didn't notice any sparking but I'll look a little closer. I've tried spraying the leads etc but not removing the distributor cap. I'll give that a go tomorrow.

Cheers

Steve

PS: Apologies for not including V6 in the original title.

I would replace the dizzy cap and rota arm...clean all the plug leads and fit new plugs.....don't forget to clean up the 7th "coil" lead....

I suppose first it would be a idea to check your battery is producing enough amps

Also remove the disty cap and check the carbon finger that touches the top of the rotor arm, these can wear down over time and result in a weaker spark.

I had exactly the same problem with my V6 last year. First time starter unless it rained. Then start walking  It took quite some time to find the problem. Every time it got looked at, the beast started of course.

My problem was just as apole mentioned, the carbon finger inside the dizzy cap had worn away. With a strong spark it was still managing fine in dry conditions. A new dizzy cap cured the problem completely. I added new spark plugs as well and never a poor start since =D> .
