valves on wheels

Yesterday I tried to remove the dust caps to check tyres pressures and one of the valves broke. I took it to Kwik Fit who say thay cant get a replacement valve cos the vehicle is imported. Can anyone advise where I may be able to get replacement valves?
Thanks
Annie!

Thanks for that but I have read through a lot of the posts but they didnt come up with a definitive yea or nay! Then of course it gets a bit techy and I dont have a clue!

I'd try some of the independent tyre places Annie.
Personally I wouldn't trust KwikFit to service a wheelbarrow much less touch my Bongo.
Give Wheelquick a ring, they can probably help.

They are readily available, but maybe not from Kwik-Fit  See this thread http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... ve&start=0

I know, Im not keen on Kwakfit either! But tyre was deflating and they were the nearest. Ive got the wheel back now, and got the temp tyre on so will have to have a look tomorrow. Can anyone just tell me what I should ask for if Im phoning round?
I know but thats the deep level of my expertise! I just want to go on wee jaunts, not bother about all the mundane detail!

As far as i know all they have to do is take the tyre off and fit a new valve on the rim, that's what i did when i had problems with the import valves (mine were bolted from inside the rim), there was two different sizes of valve i was told and mine was the smaller version.

Sometimes though if it's an import rim with the smaller valves fitted, the bigger euro valves won't fit unless the valve hole is reamed out to make it a bit bigger. I had this issue with a set of wheels i refurbed last year, "normal" sized valves wouldn't fit in the smaller valve holes...

i had the 4 tyres changed on mine in dec by a local tyre dealer and he never said anything about valves, just changed them, i was watching and gassing to him while they were done, and ive got original steel wheels.

The original steel wheels take a standard size valve, SOME aftermarket japanese alloys have a smaller valve, thus a smaller valve hole in the wheel.

Mine are like that and I was warned to be careful and protect them when I was refurbing them. The fitter (who was a good guy) did say they could be got though (but I can't remember where from  ) even though they didn't stock them

You can get the smaller valves, the tyre bloke that did mine had 4 smaller valves, but he said they were the only four valves he had at the time that would fit my wheels  =D>

If you've got wheels that require smaller valves it might be worth carrying a set in the ash tray.

Never know when you might need them.
