after fumes coming into my freeda again, took it back to the garage and they discoverd that the gasket between manifold and top pipe had fallen apart, and its only a few months old, along with the exhaust, so it was changed along with the manifold gasket, all the manifold studs, and new nuts and bolt on the exhast where it joins the manifold. lovelly fresh air for 3 weeks and its leaking again

now its going back in very soon, but i was wondering if the gasket has gone again, would something like an engine mounting be gone and making it move about to much and breaking it? or any ideas? this has been going on now for almost a year, and its getting to the point where its going to be sold if it cant be sorted.

I suppose they have checked that the manifold face is flat. If it's warped, it could well wreck the gaskets.

I would go with manifold warped if it had been blown for some time.

Hi jutwit,
Do you mean the Flange gasket on the down pipe.If so I would have a look at the engine and exhaust mountings, also the flex connector.
Cheers..

it was the gasket between the manifold and down pipe, metal and ceramic i think, but not 100% on that

dont know, but will find out.
and i will check that to.
do you think it would be a good idea to get a new, used manifold? from one of the breakers on here.

Manifolds can often be skimmed and most are then OK. Occasionally one is beyond skimming and would need to be replaced.
If you get a used one, it may also need to be skimmed.
But if you're lucky, maybe the manifold studs just need tightening?

if memory serves, there is a meaty bracket that hold the downpipe in place,i think it goes to the g/box side,

.
make sure it is present and tight. these gaskets are not usually a problem in themselves, and i always reuse them, scrape the groves clear/clean then refill with exhaust assemble paste, sorry im a tight northerner.
as said above check the manifold to head studs/nuts with a spanner, maybe do a bubble test.
is it winter pack model with the exhaust flap in the downpipe,is it stuck shut/part shut.(backpressure)
