V6 Temp gauge stopped working!

Hi everyone my V6 van is running fine however today temp gauge just stopped working. Was working fine then just stopped and stayed at the bottom. Engine seems to be running at normal temperature etc not overheated or anything. Bottom and top hoses warm heaters working fine. Water levels all ok. Where is the sender unit on a V6 please? Does anyone have any other ideas what may be wrong with temperature gauge/sender unit. |Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Kind regards David

The wiring is very simple straight from sensor to dashboard, with four connectors one at the dash one at the sensor and X35 and X24 in-between;

The position of the connectors is shown on the next page.

The actual sensor (18-840) is shown here http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... no=.html#9
and its position on the V6 engine here (top right corner) http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... 1of02.html

Hi Geoff thanks for that, had a bit of a poke around and doesn't seem to be any loose wires. I have taken the connector off the end of the sender and cleaned the terminal with sandpaper to no avail. Could it be that the sender is worn out and if so where can I get a replacement and how hard would it be to fit? Kind regards David

Several people I seem to recall have had a problem on the diesel engine of this nature, looking at the two Lush project part numbers it seems to be the same part number (not surprising) as well B59318840A 18840C SENSOR,TEMP.-ENG.COOLANT. Try somewhere like Bongo Bits I would guess.
There is one listed in the Club compatible spares list as well.

they are fairly cheap at most mazda dealers,and are on 1 day order,best to fit gen mazda parts imo.

the wire to the sender should have approx 6 or 7volts measured at its point where it connects to the sender as i remember. check what you have at this point with a multimeter conected red to wire,black to earth.this may tell you if the wire/gauge etc is ok. with ignition on.
you could remove and test the sender,but if you go this far as to remove it you may as well replace with new,as you will need to bleed the cooling system after removing it.

Thanks for the reply did the test and found the gauge was fine. Rang Mike ay Wheelquick who said it needed a temperature sender. Took her over yesterday and Mike replaced the sender, had a look round her, found a slight leak on one of the hose clips, topped up antifreeze, tightened hand brake and put on 4 new tyres. All ready for the spring now and once again a fantastic service from all at Wheelquick!!
