Bongo Fury

given that the bongo foglights are prone to rusting and seem to be breaking in the bad weather, I was thinking of changing their design to use CREE XP-G LEDs instead. I've been using these new generation of LED's for mountain biking and they are truly awesome at over 1000 lumen output each.hese aren't the puny LEDs that look blue in colour, these are very very bright lights.

How hard can it be to bung a cluster of 4 or 5 high power LED's into the foglight casing?
a) rusting won't matter because they don't require a reflector
b) they will be much ore waterproof

anyone tried it?

That bike light costs £450 How much will just the LEDs cost?

Funnily enough I've just been browsing the kaidomain.com looking at thelatest and great cree xm-l tourches to strap to my lid for mountain biking.

Only $28 for a claimed 1000 lumens!

Dealextreme do the leds cheap. Suitable drivers can be found on e-bay. I've thought about it myself, but wasn't sure about the legal side. Ensuring proper heat dissipation would be critical.

I made a camp table / hanging light using a couple of power LEDs left over from bike light projects. That works a treat.

That's why I thought the candlepower forums would be worth a trawl, they have section dedicated to transport.

I bought some slimline halogen spots,£5 a pair,put two on front as spots and two on rear wired into the reversing light.
Very bright,cheap lights,think you can get em on ebay

I actually put the normal bulbs back in the sidelights because the ebay special sidelights just were too blue in colour.

Yeah, those USE exposure lights are pretty expensive but they are totally amazing I have some cheapo CREE XP-G torches enroute from China that are rated as 12V. The key is that they have the cree LED and a lens so it hopefully just be a case of wiring them up in parallel. In terms of regulations I'm going to have to look into it because fog lights are awkward at the best of times. The units I'm getting have strobe effect setting - so I'll just be forced to wire that in as a setting for a laugh.
