Bongo Fury

Hi All,

Recently my Bongo has started to give a little lurch when I've stopped the engine, auto in Park and handbrake on.. I've seen other auto cars doing this but my Bongo has only just started doing it. Its only AFTER I've applied the handbrake (which works fine..I think) - am I being paranoid or is my auto on the verge of impending doom? Do they all do this? Would a transmission auto oil change improve matters (gotta do that anyway)?

Its only a small thing but I'm worrying as its only started doing this after a years ownership.

Mmm. There maybe a little "give" as if someone took some weight out the back...? But nothing noticeable.

I normally start & stop my auto with just the foot break applied, then release/apply handbrake ... Can't be much help just interested in thread outcome!

one recent were they were debonding....not worn out

Thanks for replies - I have changed the rear pads, but not looked at the shoes- the handbrake does seem to hold well. Mines a 2wd.

I have had previous experience with rear handbrake shoes delaminating on my old Pug 406 - seized the rear wheel up! Will check it out when I get a chance. If handbrake performance is down on the imminent MOT then that will be a good sign that all is not well in the department. The lever does feel like I have to pull it up a bit more than I used too...

The linings have come off the shoe on my bongo recently.I was told that it could have been a combination of severe temperature and the salt put on the roads.They could have frozen and stuck to the drum,the drums have probably never been taken off for a very long time,hence the problem.I have ordered new shoes from jap autos,not cheap!£75 inc P&P.

Why not PM Alacrity as he is the guru when it comes to autoboxes

sounds like the handbrake isnt working at all,and the lurching/rocking is the g/box locking pin that has locked the g/box(as it should) when its put in park. as above check the rear shoes.

Most commercial vehicle motor factors have a relining service - helluva lot cheaper than 75 quid!
