Bongo Fury

Hi again ,you may recall i had a poorly bongo with a fried head

Ive been busy this week fitting a replacement engine ,any way its all in and and great



I found it quite hard to remember every little detail and one has escaped my memory

just one wire under the engine coming out from the harness that clips to the engine itself ,its a large black wire with a yellow tracer stripe its (id say)
8mm thick with a round lug .

Im guessing earth cable but i just cant remember where it bolted to

Other than that ive bled the system as per you tube vid ,all beit alone and i have a very blistered left hand from the hot coolant through spilling a funnel full of coolant on my self whilst trying to rev the engine buy reaching over to the pump

But hey ho just the metal center lid to re-attach and the plastic undertray and a final check over ,but it starts firs crack of the key and is smooth as silk

one niggle is the glow plug light flashes im hoping its just because i hadnt plugged the gear selector back in and the said wire underneath

It could be an earth wire,to o/s engine case.

The man you want is g8dhe,he is the electrical Daddy.

Having never worked on a bongo before im enjoying it .....well so far hehe

Lets see, first its not an Earth they are all Black with only a few exceptions which are Black with Red stripe !
There are not many Black with Yellow stripe;

This one from the 15 Amp fuse looks likely it goes round several places in the (F) loom which comes up by the central console to the front of the engine its a power feed to several different systems EC-AT (Auto Transmission controller), SRS, AFT, Reversing lights.
If you have a meter handy then check the voltage on it when that fuse is in - 12 volts and out - 0 volts, the Ignition will need to be on. If so then it will be one of the systems above follow the B/Y wire round on the first diagram to each of the Orange hotspots and see where it appears physically on the connectors (the page after each diagram shows the physical location of each connector).

Ok my bongo must be different to the rest as i have 2 black with yellow stripe going from the chassis to engine and a black with yellow stripe from neg battery terminal straight to the body ,all approx 8-10 mm thick

The only place the Wire in question would reach was a small plate on the o/s engine with a small threaded pin sticking out of it ,i fitted the wire to said pin and re-fitted the center steel cover etc and all seems to be working normaly (touches wood)

ill try get a photo in the morning ,in fact ill quickly remove the one of the other side and take a pic back in 5

Thats off the nearside chassis to the engine .

It is exactly the same coming out the wiring harness on the o/s underneath the engine ,and again the same on the neg battery to the inner front wing.

What year and model is it ? I only looked at the 1997-1999 Diesel version.
It could be that they are just earth straps between chassis and engine block and not part of the electrical system as such, but a little surprised as the manuals have all the earthing points listed and shown, but other little variations have appeared before!

Just checked the 1995-1997 and that looks to be pretty much the same as well.

Mine is a 1997 P reg, the one under the engine i couldnt trace back as its in the harnes plastic, my multimeter is in the garage ill do a quick test on it tomorrow
