Hi again sorry to be a pain ,as some of you know ive fitted a replacement engine and the bongo it came from i had the dash clocks aswell with the intension of fitting them as id like to keep a record of the engine mileage

So my original clocks have a mph face and the oddo reads in kms @200k

The new clocks have the km face with a small black sticker over the K and read 60k

The new clocks have a black chip box fixed to the rear with a grey wire cut short and clean ,but a long yellow wire with a bare copper end like its supposed to connect somewhere ?

Can someone enlighten me as to where it goes :)

ive also modded the fuel guage with the 100 ohm resister and twisted the diod round to short it :P

Sorry I can't help with the chip question, but are you sure about modifying the fuel gauge, the only one I know that can be modified is the temperature gauge to improve it's response! :?:

You should leave the original milage as it the record of what the car has done, not the engine that you need to keep correct

not too fussed as its all on the dvla data base if you need the true milage of a vehicle ,Im more interested in having the mileometer count in miles ,as km/s is just strange when trying to keep the mpg on trips etc ..It will be in the service history with the engine change etc But having said that milage on 16 year old low value cars is not very important to me .

wire colours are dependant on ther chip you have and vary between manufacturers, in general you should have a positive, usually connected to the ign screw (lower left as you look at rear of clocks), a ground, connected to the sp-(middle screw) and a speed signal in, to the sp in (lower right), the upper most left sp out, wont have a connection but is needed, then you'll have the vehicle speed signal which is fed to the chip, this comes in on the left of the 2 plugs on an old shape, centre of the 3 on new shapes, and is blue wire with a white line along it.

Cheers julian ive just got back in from outside and sorted it it all works great now in mph and the fuel gauge is working (i assumed it was the sender after reading up on it here) but it sprang into life with the new clocks in ,i did the 100 ohm resister mod to the temp gauge and it sits at 12 oclock when its warmed up after about 20-30 mins tick over and the rad fans come on and off as they should had it running about an hour and a half today whilst a valeter cleaned the interior from top to bottom.
Ive kept the old clocks for record of kms of the car itself @200kms but im thinking its the engine milage thats important as stuff over the years that wears like shockkers springs tyres bearings all get replaced as needed at the mot time etc .

Anyway im happy now just cant wait to get my insurance docs through so i can tax it and use it every day 8)
