Engine cuts out while driving

Hi

We have just bought a bongo Aero Diesel 4wd, drove it down to the South of France without any problems, however we were driving up and down some Mountain roads yesterday and the engine cut out whilst driving ! Luckily we were able to pull over, but with difficulty due to power steering being disabled(bloody dangerous) luckily brakes still kicked in, the engine turned over, but did need plenty of accelerater pump to start again, but this happened a few times after we left the mountainous regions, does anybody have any ideas on how to solve this problem, i was thinking either electrical or fuel block, filter problems etc, would appreciate any info, thank you all.

Michael ;))

Welcome to the madhouse :D Have a read here http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=29471 - local help is often available 8)
I seem to remember fuel pump seals causing these symptoms. Is there any sign of a leak below the pump?

Reading the post id say South of france in the mountains never a good place to brake down ! id say fuel problem there check your filter and pipes incase of air getting in and look for obvious leaks etc but as said fuel pump seals could be to blame quite an envolved job .

Thanks John, will check this out tomorrow, we are in southern france at the moment, so mazda dealers are not well equipped as i found out, they did not have the proper diagnostic plug, so will check out ford dealer and hope they have, if not will have filters changed and check fuel strainer and your advice and hope to cure this problem, thanks again.

Hi magval,

It would be worth checking the vents on your fuel cap.If the vent is faulty it will cause a vacuum in the fuel tank, you could even try running with the cap off.

Cheers..

This happened to me once, and it tuned out to be the main engine fuse under the bonnet (100a) has become loose in its cradle.
