Bongo Fury

Just been looking at a 2001 aero tin-top that looks well smart.....but the vendor tells me it is a non electric blind model?! can someone please confirm this to be true, it does not have switches there, but factory blanks instead.....

My 2001 Aero AFT doesn't have electric blinds. There are no switch blanks either. Don't let it put you off, the Aero's look really cool!

My browsing experience has taught me that looking at the obligatory through the sliding door shot gives the game away...

This is from a 99 "Aero" off the bay!

I think electric blinds were an extra. Mine's got them but I always do them manually anyway

You know what these Bongo's are like John, it's possible the loom may be there even if the components are not installed....

Indeed they may, as they are with most cars. I guess it must be cheaper for the makers to just bung the same harness in everything

You'd think so John & Jamie, yet try as we might, we did not find any wiring to retro fit leccy blinds into a none leccy blind freda. I'm not saying they definitely ain't there, but they must have been very well hidden and routed differently

I have discovered (though components not factory fitted) the loom for rear speakers plus a loom for climate control in the rear on mine, even though the rear heater is manual & no speaker or bracket was fitted!! In fact, even the heater assembly has the points to accept the servos for the CC... (3 triangular screw points?)

You never know with these Bongo's... Ford on the other hand...?!!

As I hardly ever have rear passengers, the blinds on the drivers side stay down all the time (with insulating camping mat sections betwwen them and the glass).

The rearmost nearside blind is similarly configured but I do need to raise and lower the one in the sliding door sometimes when driving in order to get a clear view. This is the only one which really needs motorising, it is no great hardship doing the others by hand.

Some day I will try isolating the rear nearside one from the circuit sothat bit doesn't raise along with the one in the door. A switch low down just inside the sliding door would be nice for the only blind I frequently raise especially if it could be made independently of the ignition key. Leaving them all down, coupled with privacy glass on the tailgate keeps nosey people guessing.

However I often drive off after parking with them all down and at the first nasty junction realise that I need to see out of that one nearside window, so the switch on the dashboard is really handy when that happens. So when I buy a modern one I will have to remember to leave that blind up or else start breeding a junior curtain operator!

Frank, you could use a window closure module configured to raise the blinds in question when unlocking??

My o'l '95er had manual blinds - I reckon I saved 0.01 mpg with the lack of weighty motors etc...........................

I might just stick with moving it by hand when I'm standing outside the sliding door with the key in my pocket!!!

Worth noting, though, that there is a source of constant 12V up in the interior light fitting.
