Hi again all

As some of you may be aware I have had a bit of a saga on another thread with a coolant leak. That is now temporarily sorted with a bypass but in case one of the causes was a sticky thermostat I want to change it.

Most of the threads that I've searched on say to change the thermostat but not how to do it. Could someone please assist?

Firstly where is it exactly, secondly what bolts do I need to undo to get to it? I know to undo the one holding the dipstick first and then there are two others - but which are these 2? If anyones got any piccies to point me in exactly the right direction that would be great.

Thanks for all your assistance and sorry to be such a pain

trace big level steel pipe connects to passenger side lower rad connection back

there is another big rubber pipe

this in turn fits to another metal pipe that rises vertically

the other end of this is lower stat housing with 2 bolts holding it to the upper

Dont forget thermostat sits upside down ie main body towards the engine block. I needed to undo the dipstick pipe retainer to actually drop the pipe the thermostat sits in. Only 2 10mm bolts if i remember. http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... mgno=.html
Its 15-172 that your undoing , 15-176b stays bolted to the engine block.
Hope that helps.

hi,a couple of helpful hints,
please use a gen mazda stat, ensure that the mouses ear on the stat rubber is in its little corresponding seat in the housing. make sure the mouses ear sits opposite the jiggle pin. you dont need to remove the front drive shaft to change the stat.

sounds a bit weird i know, but it will become clear.
