2 litre petrol starting problem

My Bongo has normally started easily even through the cold weather. Last week after standing for a couple of hours it churned over on the starter for a long time and eventually started with a touch of accelerator. Subsequent starts are much the same. One suggestion is that the engine temperature sensor has failed/disconnected, could anyone tell me where the sensor is and how it connects to the EMU, and where the EMU is? Any other suggestions for cause of fault gratefully received.

One day I will discover how to attach smilies and a picture!

Regarding the starting, have the Spark plugs been replaced at all lately ?
as regards the Temperature sensor there is the Engine Room Temp sensor B3-09 located on this diagram;

There is also the Engine Coolant temperature sensor but that only feeds the temperature display and doesn't affect the ECU which is C2-02 on this diagram;

All the on-line wiring diagrams are available via this link http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=36657

Thanks Geoff I will go and have a look at temp sensor. I tried to get diagnostic codes but find that diagnostic connector is different from that given in fact sheet in members area, could you point me in direction of connector for 2l Bongo.

Eh, its the same but you might be confused because its mounted upside down in all the Bongo's! Its in the passenger footwell up behind the glove box its best to remove the box so that its an easier reach;

The location is on the next page on from the above just use the ►

Hi Geoff I had realised that the connector was upside down, its wiring is as diagram U2 except that contact FEN is missing which is the one used for engine diagnostics so I am stuck. This diagram differs from that given in fact sheet on diagnostics in members area. I assume that FEN FAT FBS etc are diagnostics for engine, auto transmisison, brakes etc. No idea what TEN TAT TBS etc are.

There are three major versions (WL-T Diesel, FE-E 2l Petrol & J5-DE V6) of the Bongo and each has different diagnostic connections but all the same box in the same place, I suspect that the Factsheet concentrates on the WL-T as that used to be the most common. As you would expect the ECU varies, but I think the EC-AT is much the same across all three.
Oh and of course the presence of ABS or not causes differences.

I would guess that TEN is Test Engine, TAT is Test Auto Transmission, TBS is Test auto Braking System and TAC Test Air Conditioning
