Bongo Fury

How easy is it to remove a motor, window isn't working but voltage is ok to the motor. I can see four nuts but will the window drop if I remove it and how do I line it up again inside the door skin.

Surely someone has replaced one of these motors ??

I've done a few and iirc hardest part was getting mechanism out of the door, its coming back to me now!! the window is held to the mechanism by 10mm bolts, udno these and push the window glass up to the top and put some gaffa tape over the top of the door so it sticks to the inside and outside of the glass, holding it in place, your then free to undo the mechanism and work out how to get it out of the door.

can i not just remove the motor and leave the mechanism in place ?

i cant even get to the 10mm bolts, they are behind the inner skin and nowhere near an access point.

the only ones i can see and undo are the four holding the motor in place

i take it your motor is dead then? have you tested it by applying power directly to it? Bongo windows can have strange tendancies, especially with the window isolator switch on the drivers side, which i've seen go wrong and stop the passenger window from working from either switch, which at first glance looked like the passenger window motor was dead. I've seen cars give a 12v reading but the connection prevents insufficient current to actuate the motor.

In you case your going to have to disconnect the motor/mechanism and drop the whole thing in order to gain access the window glass fixings, that aside your gonna have a hell of a job getting a fully extended mechanism out of the door hole, but you might be able to close it manually once you remove the motor?

im starting to think i might just put it back together and make do without

the voltage at the motor connector is ok for both up and down, so either my motor has died, or the mechanism is rusted shut or both

and ive just spent a bomb on a new window switch too, as that was also dead, probably burned out trying to shift the window

Never seen a stuck mechanism on a bongo, BMW convertibles are notorious for it, where the mechanism goes up,hits the stop and gets wedged between it and the door skin, stopping the window from coming back down. If i get chance later on i'll pull a door card off and have a look at whats there.
