manual to automatic central locking

Has anyone experience with adding remote locking to the already installed manual central locking? I have a 1996 2.5 diesel AFT. I can see some kits on eBay for about £25, but wonder at how secure the fobs unlocking systems are on these. Any help greatly appreciated.

The fobs are probably as un-secure as they come.
But then so is a Bongo anyway.
These kits are very easy to install, and as an improvement in convenience they are great. There is a factsheet in the members' area showing how to fit them.
If you want to make your Bongo secure however, you need to be looking at other kit, including deadlocks etc.
Car crime in Japan is apparently almost unheard of, so import cars tend to be very easy to break into. I've not tried to break into my Bongo, but having fitted the remote C/L kit, I can see how it would be easy with a very basic implement. It would be unhelpful to expand on that, but once you have the door card off you will see what I mean.

Agree with Dave, if fitting a remote though.. I would go for an alarm CL system!

This is a braces and belt situation, I have thought about doing it as well, I have security devices on my bongo and I thought most insurance companies insist on at least having an immobiliser fitted as standard, one of the best and simplest deterrent is the steering wheel bar or full metal crown device, not foolproof to the pros, but will make most simple minded scroats seek another target and not that expensive for the peace of mind it gives. Worth checking with your local crime prevention dept as quite a few forces have these things on special offer. Didnt know about the fact sheet, thanks guys will have a look.

I didn't see the fact sheet earlier, I will look again. I've a good immob. Fitted already. Cheers

I have fitted one of these kits with an actuator to fit inside the o/s door in fact I fitted the whole kit into the drivers door no problem and I had the van nearly 2years without any problems!
Cheers Stevie
