Leisure battery

I have an unconverted Bongo that used to be a 'winter pack' dual battery vehicle but I have converted the 2nd (nearside) battery to leisure use with a split charging system. To date I have been using the old start battery which was already there but I am to be sleeping in the beast for 10 nights soon 8) so I wanted to invest in the correct type of deep cycling leisure battery. Can anyone recommend a size & make please? :)

This is the one I have. Been fine so far. Regularly lasts 4 days running a Vitrifrigo C42L fridge, mobile phone charger, etc without hook-up.

Dave, does that fit in the standard battery tray?

Good point (since that was part of the original question!)

I have this battery in a Willinton tray. I'm not sure if Martin's trays are a copy of the Mazda LHS tray, or are sized to fit and take the maximum battery dims.

Thanks for that info Dave. Mine is a winter spec Bongo and I'm probably going to get the Willinton kit with tray when funds allow. Hopefully the van will start with just the one starter battery without having to get a new one.

Mine has always started without any issues since I dropped her back to one starting battery. Some advise to get a higher capacity start battery which is sound advice & something I will do when the need arises. So far, through all through the cold this winter inc. periods of 2-3 weeks standing, it has always started as normal.

Should be no issues starting on one battery - most Bongos do after all.

Am I right in thinking that the winter kit means a slightly different starter motor too?

Don't know on that one.

I will measure my battery tray when I next get a chance. Always a good idea to know in advance what space is available!!
