I have had a rattle in the engine of my recently purchased ford freda diagnosed as requiring a new crank shaft pulley which I've been sent by the bongo dealer as it was still under warranty.

1. The mechanic who found the problem said I might as well replace all the belts if I was getting the crankshaft pulley done. Can anyone let me know if thats a good idea or am I ok to wait for a them to be worn out before replacing them - there isnt a particular problem now?

2.Spares
Its taken a while to get the crankshaft pulley - I'm now a bit worried about making have some spares to hand is there any recommended spares you should carry if you're doing a long trip?

Thanks
Ray

Hi Ray,

Your mechanic is probably correct,if your pulley has started to break up there is a possibility that the belts could be affected.
Re spares I would recommend a RAC or AA etc card.

Cheers Mal....

We had a little rash of broken pulleys on here some time back and there was a theory that the pulleys broke up as a result of belts with the wrong v-shape being fitted. It all points to it being sensible to replace belts, making sure they are pukka Bongo belts. 8)

If you're travelling in Europe, many spares can be shipped to you within 2 or 3 days, so you don't need to pack all the big items. ;)
