Bongo Fury

Just stripped a N reg down today looks like the wrong plugs fitted somebody had put 4 washers under the buzz bar? Looks like someone has fitted the wrong ones and had to space oot the bar to stop it from shorting oot against anything.Does anyone have the part no of the NGK one's thanxs in advance .

NGK Y701-J if the normal shorter 83mm your after

I have heard of that Washer Bodge before Stevie, if you want to fit 83mm Glow Plugs on a Bongo that previously had 103 Glow Plugs fitted it is either raise up the rail with washers or bend the rail. NKG don't make the longer ones so if you want to stick with the arrangement that you have got you can get the NGK Glow Plugs that you need from here:

I've got the same conundrum myself. I bought a set of NGKs from a fellow member on here who had bought 83mm ones when he needed 105mm ones.

Mine don't need doing yet, but whilst I was in under the driver's seat doing the starter contacts, I decided to pull one plug out to check - and I have 105's as well.

Not too keen to do the "stack o' washers" bodge, so I'll probably have to re-profile the rail - but is there another way? Has anyone found a source of rails for the 83mm plugs, or has anyone got a drawing / pattern for getting one made?

I suppose I could make one out of suitable 100A cable, and soldered ring terminals.......

just bend the rail and have done. ours had the 103mm in, changed to 83mm and just bossed the rail with a hammer and some insulation tape. been ok for the last 4 yrs like that.

To do the same as you have.

You just need the screw tops from spark plugs and a pieces of threaded set screws.

Cheers for all the help ,we got original Mazda ones the right ones to chassis no and yes they were the longer ones .worked a treat sorted the Misfire on cold start up.

Just for a bit of info Stevie. Who makes the original Mazda glow plugs. Surely Mazda don't make glow plugs themselves.

Tony, the long plugs in mine are Nippon Denso ones. I don't have the part no to hand here, but I googled it, and got a Bosch part compatibility list, which matched them to the NGK 83mm ones......

Hi Tony don't no who makes them originally for Mazda as they come in Mazda branded boxes but they worked a treat but pretty costly @ over £50 each!!! But u would think that they should last a good while if not for the rest of the van's life?
