Bongo Fury

Hi all did I read somewhere that the 2.0l engine only has a 2wire lambda fitted (waiting for our Bongo to arrive (Jal) this will be yr2000 new shape) and if so has anyone converted them to a 4 wire one to get the system into closed loop control earlier?

Like Brian I'm confused, do you mean converting to a wide band sensor?

its a sensor modern ecu use related to fuel

but ive no idea if a bongo has one

Thanks for the replies not a wideband just a 1 volt sensor that has a heater element built in the extra two wires represent power and ground.The heater brings the sensor into action quicker allowing tighter fuel control earlier

Not sure for the 2.0 but the v6 has the old fashioned 2 wire sensor. My LPG converter suggested to convert to a 4 wire system to ensure the sensor warmed up quickly and gave a useful output. Not done it yet but doesn't look difficult, as you say the extra 2 wires are for the heating element. Just wire up to a source such as the fuel pump that only runs when the engine is going. Also not sure on the current it runs at, may need to wire via a relay if it's large.

2.0 has a two wire as well, though can't see any benefit in sticking a four wire in, the Lambda sensor will be up and running long before the vapouriser is hot enough to swap to gas.

4-wire sensor won't make any difference because the ECU won't know that the sensor is heated, it will switched to closed loop based on several paramters, primarily when the coolant temperature hits a fixed value.
You also shouldn't wire the O2 heater directly, it needs to be switched on only when the exhaust temperature has risen sufficiently otherwise the in-rush current may crack the heater ceramic.
