Head and Head gasket

Hi,

The dreaded Head Gasket(HG) has allegedly gone! The engine has done the rounds and back again, produces plumes of blue smoke on start up and I am wondering is it cheaper to replace an engine than get the HG done? Ive seen figures of £1100 for a head and £300-500 for the HG replacement, would this still be a correct figure to budget for?

Sorry for so many questions but it difficult to know what to do at the present time :(

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Since the engne sounds like it owes you very little, I'd seriously consider sourcing a nice one from a breaking Bongo and doing a complete swap. I wonder if you would be allowed to keep (bits of) the old engine as (keepable or floggable) spares, or whether you have to do an exchange with all sources (I know you have to with some)?

Bellhill are not too far off from you (Allans and Bongobits) - give 'em a call maybe?

Thanks Mike,

Have contacted Allan's but forgot about Bongobits. I will give them a call.

Thanks for the suggestion.
