Sliding door lock broken

Hi there, got an unusual problem with my sliding door. For some time, when I locked the bongo, the sliding door would make a sharp, buzzing noise, like a cog missing sprockets or whatever they're called.
Everything else worked OK - the electric door closure was fine.
Anyway, it was clear that something was wrong and tonight it went completely. Now to lock the door, you have to press down on the lock button on the door, whilst pressing the lock on the key fob. Clearly something's broken in the locking mechanism.
Any ideas what might be wrong? All help appreciated!

Just a rough guess..?!! You could try cleaning the five contacts on the door & jam...
The two fixed/unsprung contacts are to do with the central locking electrics...

Thanks. I'll try cleaning them, but I don't think it's those. It sounds mechanical to me.

sounds like the actuator (motor) is dead, its a very unusual in its locking/unlocking action and cant be replaced with just a normal type 2 wire motor.

Thanks for all the help. I've managed to have a look down behind that wooden panel but can't see anything obvious.
Since I posted it's started working sporadically, but it still makes the noise, which I've recorded. You can hear it here:
http://www.nickpage.co.uk/clients/Bongo%20Noise_0.mp3 and here:

What I've discovered is that you can still lock it from the outside, using the key, but it feels very stiff.
What do you think?

Is there any resistance to the inside locking button when pushed down/pulled up manually?

Sorry for the delay in replying. The inside lock switch won't move manually at all. I can't press it down or pull it up. You can push it down if you press the key fob button at the same time.

& after reading your post, wonder if something's come slightly adrift jamming the mechanism causing strain on the actuator??
I would be taking the door card & trim off & looking at anything catching the inside door skin, maybe a rod connector..??
...Dunno, warped plastic trim round the locking button???
