Hello and welcome to change the auto box oil you will find it a lot easyer with a pela pump wich is a vacum pump.

most of us have the 6 litre capacity one http://www.mailspeedmarine.com/tools-re ... 4535.bhtml

use the pump to extract the old oil then you can if you want to do a full clean up remove the gear box sump and clean out the fillter. but a few people just change the oil.

hope this helps you can also look at this thread http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... rbox+drain

As it happens mine was done last week with Kirsty doing most of the work.
2 Ways to do it.

1 = quick and simple
2 = longer but 100% way.

You will need a 6lt Pela Pump (google it.)

Quick way.....using the pump....suck out via the dipstick/fill tube as much as possible (about 4.5 lt's..........replace with the same amount of new D3 ATF.

Better way....suck out as much as possible as above.......then remove the auto box sump...and the filter inside.......clean them both with parrifin of some such......disconnect the 2 hoses and "blow through" ....put it all back together and refill via the filler/dipstick tube. (about 5.5 Lt)

It really is easy and you would be hard pushed to mess it up....allow a couple of hours including a tea break.

You will then have a Pela pump to do engin oil changes although I personally do them the conventional way

Just done my own today, the long version as Hayden explains above. Was actually quite easy. So thank you all for another feather to my bow!!

I changed my fluid the easy way a couple of years back (more to test the pela pump than anything else) There was a definite improvement in gearchanges! And it seemed fine before the change!

Mine's due a full on (step 2) job soon i reckon.

I tested the pela pump a while ago................Borrowed Bigdaddies................. :lol:
Well worth buying one.
If you remove the sump after draining, well worth it IMHO take care to refit the magnet. (i'm sure it is mentioned in the links)

My gear change was definitely smoother after servicing. Just be prepared for the fluid left in the sump when you remove it.:wink:
