Ive got a brand new replacement water pump to fit on the bongo , how easy a job is it for numbskull like me to fit .

I think hes busy at the moment ,he's trying to figure out where his dipstick is supposed to be.

I fitted mine last year i found it easy enough Dave but i done mine using my pit so that helped me out loads, i wouldnt like to attempt it on my back working with spanners too long in that posistion it will kill your arms, but it was easy enough mate just abit of a tight place to work thats all

I did mine a few weeks ago.
Not hard, but you need an army of different sockets of varying lengths (10mm)....and don't forget to loosen the pulley nuts first! ( I did )
All done from inside passenger compartment...P.M. me if you want some useful curses and swear words .
Top tip:...put some towelling over the front lip of chair base...or you'll end up with some rare ol' bruises

When you get the old one off, can you take some pics please? There is a hole in the case at the bottom. See if there has been any leaking going on if you can. Not easy to spot until the pump is off.
I helped spenner change his recently. Piece of p**s. .......................................Well, if the truth be known, he did the work while I was loafing around with a cup of tea in one hand and a fag in the other, shouting instructions .

Helen gave some good tips there, particularly the one about loosening the pulley bolts BEFORE you remove the drive belts.

Not my brainpower regarding the pulley bolts...that came from Allan's...with the pump....the swearwords are all my own effort

Noticed a difference between the water pump i have bought and the one that is being used for discussion on another thread, mine has eight blades and no hole in the centre of the fan blades, but otherwise it looks the same.

Your new one is identical to spenners (8 blades)
The original Mazda pump (1st pic) with the small hole. The impellor is a press (interference fit) on the shaft. The hole is to allow air to escape when the fan is pressed onto the shaft.
The new pump impellor is also a press fit. The reason it doesn't have the hole is probably down to manufacturing costs. Much cheaper to make the new one.
You may also have noticed that the impellor blades are slightly curved in the original pump, but flat faced on the new one. This will also be a cost cutting excercise. Flat blades are probably not as efficient as the curved ones???? Certainly don't appear to have similar blade face area. Hence the need for an increase in blade number from 6 to 8. Just a guess, but probably quite near the truth.
Daft question, but why are you changing the pump? Is it leaking?

Not that i know of, but i do have a tiny coolant loss from somewhere that i cant find.
Ive been reading up a little and also been advised to change it.
The Japanese change the water pump when they change their stat, which is what i am doing.
Its a bit of belts and braces preventative maintenance.

Check the underside of the expansion tank!!

and have a look at this. This happened to me recently. Didn't appear to have a coolant loss, BUT would have done if Ady hadn't spotted it.
The old core plug actually had a pinhole in it that you could see through. Gets me a little concerned when I wonder how many other similar potential leak spots are dotted around the Bongo

Bone dry, already checked it. Very rare that the tanks fail on bongo's in my experience, they get mucky yes, but faliure is an extremely rare occurence!
