Bongo Fury

Hi
When I fill up the tank the gauge only reads about 75% full, and also reads empty before it really is.
Is there a simple answer or does it probably need a new sender unit or gauge?

sometimes you can re earth the earth cable and that has been known to do the trick

Thanks - stupid question I know, but where do I find that?

the sender unit is located behind the drivers seat under the carpet there will be a metal plate over the top of it

Not sure the above is relevant, as the guage works but just reads out of skew.

Mine does the same, it'll do 50 miles past the Empty marker & then only take about 50 litres to fill up.

I think the simple (?) answer is to gently remove the needle & move it up a couple of notches, something I've not had the guts to do as yet.

Check the gauge is working properly by disconnecting the 2 wire white block connector from the top of the sender, then shorting the neg & pos on the loom block... The gauge should slowly rise to full with the ignition on..?!! If it does? The actual gauge in the pod is OK...

I recently fixed a faulty fuel gauge on someones bongo, all i did was take a wire, I then put a small ring connector on one end ,and used one of the screws that hold the fuel sender that are on top of the tank,
I then took the other end of the wire pushed it into the block connector (black wire) and then just reconnected the block connector back onto the tank.

Can't remember the details, but this very common problem with the fuel gauge (due to poor earth connection) can often be fixed without lifting the carpet or anything, but by making a new earth connection from the fuel tank to chassis, working from underneath the car. Have a search on here for 'sender' and see what it turns up, as there should be some details on how to do it. Good luck
