Sat in lay by coolant alarm going off temp gauge not raising still sat at 11o clock. Water level ok but alarm still goi ng off

Whereabouts are you located ?

I'm not sure what kind of alarm you've got, and I have to assume that you can see the water level through your header tank (as you won't have opened it while hot!). Depending on the presence or absence of any temp guage mod/Mason, you may not see any movement from the temp gauge.

As I understand, you should:
- leave the engine running to maintain coolant flow
- put heaters/blowers on full to extract some heat
- let it cool down.

Hopefully someone else can provide you with first-hand assistance...

A38 near Plymouth

Have checked the contacts in the header tank?, I am not up the low coolant alarm but believe that theres sometimes an issue with the earth wire?, again not too sure but also I think some of the coolant alarms have the high coolant alarm so might be that there is an issue with air in your system pushing the coolant up through the header tank?, but I doubt that if the temperature gauge isnt rising?

Just let it cool down and check the wires and contact thing inside the header tank.

What alarm do you have?..... Is your temp gauge modified?.... If you have any tank alarm it should not sound with sufficient coolant in the tank....

Bessie pm me your phone number and I'll get Allan to ring you with advice. He re-opens on Tuesday and is there now, doing the last minute jobs.

I think I recall a while back that some coolants were causing a deposit to build up on the screw insde the coolant tank.This was leading to false alarms as the circuit resistance was getting too high.

The remedy was to remove the screw, clean the threads & then rescrew it back into the tank.In a bad case of build up a new screw may be required.

Before removing the screw though, make sure the coolant system has cooled a while AND is depressurised as you risk getting scalded by a spurt of very hot coolant when you remove the screw.

It does sound to me like it could be a false alarm (but better one of those than no alarm at all!)

Thank you all for help but Allan became our hero and now all sorted as previous post needed to clean the screw so cornwall here wecome.
