Bongo Fury

Has anyone got any of these on their Thule rack?
I've just bought an extra 2 for my Thule 973 rack and they don't seem to lock either way when the key is turned.
Is there a certain way you need to attach them initially, as there is no instructions with them and simply screwing them on doesn't seem to work?

We've got one on ours, you just screw the inner bit on with a spanner and then lock the shroud over the top. Although I doubt the lock would withstand much persuasion with a lump-hammer

Aha, mines the 567 lock, may be different to fit. I'll email you the instructions for that anyway in case it is of use.

When the key is turned, they should become loose to the feel as if free wheeling.

Cheers for that Muz, although it's the knobs that you twist to clamp the bikes to the rack I'm on about. I have got the 567 lock as well though (which was a doddle to fit compared to these ones).

That's what I thought they should do - but they don't. Well I say that, sometimes they kind of do that, wheras you can't screw them on any further, but can still screw them off, which totally misses the point!

That's what mine do. We have several of these bought partly to standardise the key for the various different Thule products we have. Turns out it was cheaper to buy a spare knob with two keys than just buy the keys! (You can choose the key number when you buy and each has two supplied).

The thing is designed so that turning the key locks/unlocks the outer cover/knob to the threaded inner core. Take out the key and screw up tight. Put the key back in and rotate 180 degrees to disengage outer cover from inner core. Remove key. Outer knob spins without turning the inner core so "locking" the clamp i.e. it can't easily be removed.

Sorry if you had already worked this out; I don't want to seem patronising and it is possible you have duff units if they don't work this way

Brilliant - those were the words I needed! They only work if the knobs are screwed up tight!
