Genuine Mazda Thermostats

Hi folks,
I keep hearing only fit Genuine Mazda Thermostats.I was always under the impression that Mazda did not make Thermostats.Could anybody confirm that Mazda do make Thermostats,and any other components for Mazda vehicles.

It is always very difficult to tell what parts a car manufacturer actually makes, in fact it is probably very little. Mazda certainly don't make brake pads or belts, for example, but you can still buy genuine Mazda ones. When the term Mazda Genuine thermostat is used it doesn't necessarily mean it is made by Mazda but it does mean that it is a Mazda approved design and supplied via Mazda in Mazda labelled packaging. According to some of the more knowledgeable people on here there are differences between the 'genuine' thermostats and the 'pattern' ones which may or may not be important.

There are indeed differences. A genuine Mazda stat (as supplied at Mazda dealers) has features that the pattern ones don't have. Having said that, the pattern jobbies do perform in the same manner. (from tests)
