Hi All, should really know this but age and STELLA has lost me a few brain cells !! (thats the lager and not the wifes name but both have the same result )
When should the cambelt be changed on a 2.5 Diesel Bongo ? is it a big job and will it result in engine damage should it snap? what is the approx price likely to be (ball park figure) ?
many thanks in advance

The engine damage likely to result from a snapped timing belt is bent or snapped valves, and possibly holed or damaged piston crowns.
I don't possess a workshop manual, so as a rule of thumb guide (erring on the side of caution) I'd say the replacement schedule should fall in the 50,000 miles or every 5 years region.
Plenty of Bongo's have a sticker in the engine bay giving the date and mileage as to when the timing belt was last replaced, i suppose that's pretty definitive, and personally i'd be inclined to trust that to an extent... Well, the date at least... whether the mileage has ever been altered since that belt was fitted is anybodies guess
You'd be looking at around the £100-£150 mark for a timing belt replacement (depending on garage used). It's a simple job as cambelts go...
