BONGO BEEPS

Hi all.....I have just watched the video for stopping the beeps on a Bongo....unfortunately this stops ALL the beeps..most of which are SAFETY features.....
The only beep which annoys me is the key in ignition with door open one...can't have the door open with key in to listen to the radio...
There is an easy way to cure this....remove the bottom of the cowl on the steering column...3 screws from underneath.
At the key end of the ignition switch you will see two wires ( one red/yellow one green ) these go to a plug/socket at the back end of the switch.....you can slide this unit towards the front of the Bongo to remove it ( you will need a small terminal driver to release the retaining catch )....Then if you remove the plug with one purple and one white wire into it then this will stop the key/door beep whilst retaining all the other SAFETY ones....
Slide the socket back on and tuck the plug part away... replace cowl...job done..
Hope this helps you folks...

Good tip Alan!
I went for Plan B which involves just unscrewing the door switches that make the little light come on when the doors are open.
Stops the beeps but does involve a stretch of the arm in the dark to manually flick the light on.
I've learnt to live with that though.

this method prevents the reversing alarm from bleeping unless the lights are on though. this was the first job i did when we got our bongo. disconnect that annoying "ive left my keys in "alarm.

i removed the 2 wires from the beeper which is next to you foot. One for the reversing alarm and one for the keys in. All safety alarms left intact.

What are the safety beeps for? My bongo has no beeps at all

Am I missing out on something? Glad the roof doesn't beep, but would be nice to know if I leave the lights on.

You don't need to remove the cowl, the plug and socket can be reached without it, there are photo's showing the position of the plug and socket but not in a position to locate them at the moment

Hi Mike...long time no see...

....my reversing beep still works with or without lights....funny things these Bongos...

I had already had the cowl off as my immobiliser has packed in and I was in the process of trying to by-pass it to get my electrics working.....

....without the cowl I found it much easier to release the retaining clip on the plug....it only takes a minute to remove and replace....

Apart from the annoying key in/door open.....there are beeps for
Lights on/door open
When in reverse
When roof is raising...stops when roof fully up
When the Granny squash button in the roof to lower roof is pressed
When roof is being lowered...stops when roof is fully down
If you attempt to drive off with the roof up
To me these are all safety features.......

Thanks Alan. Might try to reconnect it then, but doesn't sound like I'm missing out on much.

I disconnected the connector on the steering column, all beeps still there apart from the irritating 'key in' one.

You could still hear the radio with the door shut and the window open / down.

This is what I have done, everything working apart from the bleeping key

which 2 wires are they? when we originally got the bongo i disconnected the big plug on the unit behind the kick panel. silence is golden but i did miss the lights on alarm. so i have now re-connected the main box & pulled the plug on the back of the ignition switch. better but i also really don't need to be told that i am in reverse , the fact that that there is a big "R" by the gear selector staring at me and i'm probably going backwards is another clue to that! i had been wondering wether there was another feed that could be disconnected to silence the reverse alarm but a "one stop job" definitely sounds preferable to having various bits of the loom un-plugged and cable tied up out of the way.
