For little spots I've just been cleaning them witha glass fire etching pencil, touching on Kurust with an artists paintbrush, then ditto for the primer, metallic paint and (most importantly) lacquer (which is in a spray can so a pray a bit into the cap and use by brush from there.

I reaosned that for small repairs, both brushing and spraying would show as a patch (sparaying probably worse), and as these were v. small patches and I'm more concerned about protection that appearance, touch-up brushing would be more effective and simpler. In the event, the touch-ups hardly show (certainly no more than the scratches that brittle old lacquer is prone to from bushes etc.).

There is apparently some really good stuff, and it has been mentioned on here (I think its a kind of epoxy) in connection with painting and protecting cleaned of rust, but I can't remember its name - it might be worth having a search to see what you can find.

OR... YOU do the beach thing and let the family get their hands mucky! You can offset the favour by driving them to the beach, and let them watch you build sandcastles whilst the missus and kids get busy on the rust spot
