Hello, the front cigarette lighter electrical socket isnt working, but the rear one is. I have them wired up to a leisure battery, otherwise no other alterations. Would any body know what might be the likely cause and how this could be remedied. If you do have an idea as to how to fix it, please could you give a mechanical idiot some very simple step by step instructions. i imagine it is a fuse of some sort but honestly have no idea. all other lights appear to be working fine. many thanks in advance as usual

It might be as simple as one of the wires coming loose from the back of the socket.

....or it might be the cigarette lighter unit itself. Put a test meter on the conecting wires, turm the ignition on and see if your getting a reading, if so, its your lghter unit, if not its further up the line, fuse, bad connection somewhere.
If you havnt got a test meter just swop the duff one with the good one to test the electrical integrity that way. If it is the unit they are only a few quid to replace, most car spare shop stock them or there is even flea bay.

It'll be the little fusible link on the back of the unit, pull it out and you'll see what looks like a little L shaped balck wire, it may look intact but it'll be blown, eith solder across it or pull out the screw and take it all paprt and remove the insulating washer and reassemble so its fused by the 10A in the box
