Bongo Fury

Hi,

I am a complete newbie, we brought our bongo last week.. however realised it needs a little tlc. Just hoping its not going to be a complete money pit!

we have a Bongo V6 2.5 petrol. 1997

It needs a new cam belt.. however quite shocked at the prices I have been quoted...I have been advised its best to change the Hydrolic tensioner at the same time.. we've been quoted £600+VAT
Just wondering if anyone else has had any experience and what prices am I looking at?

We'd also like to get the van undersealed.. I've been quoted £70+VAT from one garage and £200+VAT from another??? Confused.....

Service prices seem to vary.... is this normal??

I'm in East Sussex.. if anyone can recommend a garage that is not going to completely rip us off that would be great.

I have it on very experienced authority that the tenshioner if it seems o.k. probably is o.k..
He has done many V6's and so far just changed the belt....BUT...check the camshaft oil seals as they can be done at the same time

You cannot get a decent underseal for £70....£200 perhaps... but for a super duper job with all internal spaces "waxoiled" more like £500

Was that spare wheel out, all the plastic trims off in wheel arches, engine tray off, headlights out, rear lights out waxoil in behind the door pocket into the back of wheel arches, insdie door panels all box section internals done, etc, etc, all cleaned, dried before waxoiling? Or just a good spray of what could be seen as you drove in?

Yes inside wherever possible
And it will be done again September to October time

But, as a rule, I think Haydn is right. You got very lucky if you had a top job done for £75

I did most of the prep work myself to satisfy my own mind

Kinda my point, if people go into a garage expecting all that for £70, they're gona be disappointed

That's what takes most of the time...not a level playing field!!

weve just had a cam belt change this week... £195...
were in west sussex.. 2 hrs max labour..
