Sediment Light

Post by pistonbroke » Thu Jun 09, 2011 9:30 am

Does this refer to sediment in the fuel system or the cooling system and how do I resolve it? It came on last night, ahead of a 200 mile trip this morning. Typical!

Could be an indication of alternator issues if the charge light is on too.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

My sediment light came on & i emptied the water out,but a couple of day's later the charge light & sediment light came on together,so i changed the Alternator & no probs since (that was a couple of months back)
Regards Ray & Christine

It's only easy when you know the answer!!!!!!!!!!

What's the link between having contaminated fuel (mine had water in it) and the alternator....? Don't get that one.

That's exactly case, there is no logical reason to put both lamps on for Alternator problems!
I suspect that they reused the Instrument panel from another vehicle, and this already had the extra diode in place to bring on the Sediment light but to keep costs down they didn't remove it and its continued to this day! It only happens on the Diesel, the V6 and the 2L don't make use of the Sediment light.

Its the 3J and 2J connections and the diode between them.
