Are there any advantages or dlsadvantages to disconnecting the 4wd system? Ive got a 2000 diesel 4wd. Anyone attempted this and how easy would it be?

I guess that one of the disadvantages has to be that your front wheels won't drive.........

More economical maybe? Could i ask why you'd like to do this please?

There is a factsheet in the members area on doing just that if I remember rightly.
As I see it -
Pros - less bits to go wrong (CV joints/boots, viscous coupling, etc), less weight being carried around if driveshafts removed, in theory very slightly better economy, less wear on the front tyres.
Cons - You won't have 4WD (never been an issue for me personally having a 2wd) .
But, unless you're having issues, I don't know that I would remove 4wd.

Nope, if you're lucky you may gain 1 or 2mpg, but there is very little difference TBH.
What sort of mpg are you getting?
Check you haven't got a fuel pump leak (common issue, 2 seals & a couple of hours with the factsheet should sort it if you're not fly by wire), turbo working ok? tyre pressures may need upping, gearbox oil ever been changed? diff oil? brakes binding? how heavy is your right foot?

I may be able to offer some advice in the next week or so as my 4WD is currently undergoing major surgery having a 2WD gearbox fitted so I should be able to compare Like For Like in the same vehicle.

It was given a good going over back in April when i first got it by Bell Hill. Suppose i shouldnt expect great mpg given the size of it etc! Its great on long runs and i wouldnt have anything else!

but you still haven't told us what mpg you're getting?
Most people are chuffed if they get more than 30mpg on long runs, expect low 20's on short runs.
It's a 2 tonne brick on wheels with a 2.5 td lump in it, as you say, it's never going to be fantastic mpg, think about the smiles per mile instead
