Bongo Fury

We had a broken driver-side window switch - it was literally the switch for the driver's window itself that was broken; otherwise all was well. The passenger side window was working from both the driver side and the passenger side. Someone has been trying to repair this for me but now the problem is worse - neither window is now working. They say that a replacement switch will sort the problem out.
To be honest, being technically illiterate, I'd just like some independent thoughts on what might have happened. Has the wiring failed in some way? If it is just the wiring, then could the situation be restored for now to the original minor problem (driver window not working) without the need for a new switch? We are about to go travelling abroad and at present I'd settle for one functioning window if a new switch cannot be got or is really expensive.

Professional auto electrician?? These bongo switches ain't cheap New or used!!

Still worth checking the black earth wire in the door loom.... The previous Jap owner butchered the switch on mine before i discovered the true intermittent cause... Got a switch for a tenner from a 626?? http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... switch+626

Reading your post again... "They" may have reassembled the switch wrong disabling the passenger side... Did they put the little white box back in under the rocker switch with the contacts, tiny spring & ball-bearing?

With the drivers switch removed ,the passy one won't work as it requires the switch at the rear of the drivers switch to close to operate the passy switch, if you check the wiring diagrams or ask Jaylee or G8DHE nicely they may be able to tell you which wires you'd need to connect to make that circuit, or just try plugging the drivers switch back in & see if the passy window lock switch works . Of course it could be the loom between the door & body playing up aswell....

if you strip the switch right down there is a 'slider' that is pushed forward or back, its usually the sticky out pin that breaks on them so the switch movement doesnt actually move anything. That or its the part of the switch you push/pull, it breaks around the pivot point so when you move it, it doesnt actuall translate the vertical movement
