110v inverter

I gather from another thread that I have a 110v inverter in the rear nearside panel of my V6. I thought it was just another ciggie lighter. Now for the 'duh' question: what is a 110v inverter for?
Would I be right in thinking that they have 110v mains in Japan, and this inverter is to convert 12v to 110v? If that's the case, then I assume it's of no practical use to me, yes?

you assume correctly sir!! they come on with the ignition, but if you modify the vehicles wiring to put lighter sockets onto leisure battery it'll drain it flat, you can pull it all apart and re-wire just the lighter plug bit

How do you tell if you have a 110V inverter as opposed to a standard cigarette lighter socket? Is the socket different?

if you have a standard round lighter socket in the back then you DONT have an inverter

Mine is a normal standard 12v lighter socket in the back - works as the front one
