Bongo Fury

I've a oil leak coming from a perished rocker cover gasket and was wondering how easy it is to change it yourself...or is it a garage job? I can't find any fact sheets on this topic.

I'm no spanner monkey, but..................Put a new gasket on a few days ago during head change. Job is very easy. Couple of things to disconnect from rocker cover to get that off.
30 minute job - tops.
Left my manual at a mates so can't be any more specific at the moment. If you need the info ASAP, I'll go and get it.

It might be worthwhile giving the set screws a wee nip up,they often slacken off with engine vibration over the years.

Thanks Chaps....i'm unsure on i) how to disconnect the gear box safely and ii) if i need a new set of nuts for the cover. i read something about "special nuts and bolts".

Hi Hoss
i) Not sure what you are doing here. Why do you mention disconnecting the gearbox?
ii) If you are talking about the rocker cover, then no, you will not need a new set of bolts (not nuts).
If the "special nuts and bolts" you refer to are for the rocker cover, there are bolts and 'top hat' shaped spacers that hold the cover down. Neither need to be replaced.

Repeat - If you are just changing the rocker cover gasket, then all you will need is a new gasket, spanner (or socket) for the bolts, and about an hour (maximum) of your time.
There are 12 bolts in all.
