Eyup everyone :) ~i'm getting an annoying rattle, which i'm thinking is the Tappet's.

Assuming it is,being an OHC engine is it as easy to do as an "overhead valve engine" (which i've done quite a lot over the years) or is it a lot more technical??

If it's pretty straightforward could you give me valve clearances (in thous please) order of adjustment eg."start from front of engine" & any relevent info to make the job easier, also am i right in thinking "adjust when cold"
Thanks~Regards Ray. :)

Hi.yes its straightforward to check and adjust clearances on a bongo..Im correct in thinking you have a 2.5td?
Im on nights at moment but can get back to you in morning regarding correct clearances and if there is a specific order if that helps you?

No problem will check in morning....have all info somewhere as just done it myself!
Easy to do...start at TDC then i just turned at crank until the next cylinder had all the cam lobes free, checked them then moved onto the next etc etc..will be obvious when you actually look at it.Check they lift ok as well as the clearances.

Pic from manual and further info on torque settings.
Just doen this on a new head 4 days ago. Stuck STRICTLY to the manual and it runs sweetly. No tappet rattle.

As timmyt said, clearances (COLD) are:
Inlet 0.1mm +/- 0.05 (in old money 0.004" +/- 0.002")

Exhaust 0.2mm +/- 0.05 (in old money 0.008" +/- 0.002")

Rotate crankshaft clockwise until No.1 cylinder is at TDC with all rockers on No.1 cylinder loose.

Adjust the tappets marked '1' in the diagram. Some are inlet and some are exhaust so be careful you pick the right ones.
When correct setting, tighten locknut (torque setting 16-20Nm - or 11.8 - 14.75 ft lb). Check clearance again with feeler gauges.

Turn the crankshaft one revolution (360 degrees)and No.4 cylinder is at TDC with all rockers on No.4 cylinder loose

Adjust the tappets marked '4' in the diagram. Again, some are inlet and some are exhaust so be careful you pick the right ones.
When correct setting, tighten locknut (torque setting 16-20Nm - or 11.8 - 14.75 ft lb). Check clearance again with feeler gauges.

Bugger - Geoff beat me to it

Sounds like your getting on well with yours,i'm sure you'll sort the little niggles out, then it's back to "happy motoring" :D

Just got to order my gasket from the club shop then hopefully sort it next week.
