Bongo Fury

When I bought BongoBonnie in May, I immediately installed a new keyless entry, emobilizer, and remote start package.
The installer had to charge extra because Mazda doesn't have a separate door-lock button. They installed a cheap door actuator married up to the existing doorlock rod.

Since then, I have noticed my power windows didn't work up or down, the only door that locks is the driver's door, and somtimes the other three doors won't lock remotely or with the key from the driver's door.

I am thinking a poor ground here or broken wires in the loom around the door hinge. Has anyone experienced this?

Today, the remote engine starter is acting up. I don't know if the two are related, but I have had the door panel off 3 times and all is good that I can see.

the loom where it goes from the door to the main body plays up, common problem.

not sure if this is your cause but it happens and sound familiar

most people that have installed a remote locking system have done exactly what you have

For the windows it could be a broken ground wire (Black) in the door loom..? Either severed in the V or try where the loom goes under the rubber/grommet cowl in the wing/body..? You may find other wires gone too?

If you get a constant 12v off the CL static pins on the sliding door connectors (Could be 5 in all, 3 sprung for the soft closure mechanism.) As opposed to a short 0.4? secondish burst when the driver door pin is locked/unlocked, for the actuator! Could be the CL relay under the glove box??

will most likely all be related to the drivers loom, split open the corrugated plastic and you'll see what you have, cant see remote start being affected by anything in the door? Bongo's have whats termed 'single point' central locking, which means its only controlled from 1 lock, the other version is multi point which means can be controlled from any lock, so unless you have factory remote central locking then its correct your car would have required a 2 wire motor.

A trick with dodgey looms is to try the locking/window etc whilst swinging the door open and closed as there's usually some contact made during the motion

Could be a connection to the handbrake safety feature... Or the handbrake not applied & left in park?? Assuming yer fitter connected up the wire to handbrake on switch?? (Not entirely sure there is a circuit for sensing in park on the Bongo?? Or your 95 reg Dave?)

Was any wiring for this disturbed doing the engine repair?

You've all given me likely options for sure, the most likely is the ground in the door loom.
I must admit having this happen on a 90 GM Safari after 370,000kms many years ago which resulted in rewiring the whole harness.

The random and intermintent behaviour is likely in the door loom as suggested. I am actually thrilled to hear that you folks have experienced this also - that it is somewhat common.

BTW; I had my FIRST real day back in business yesterday travelling reliably in my Bongo to/fm Vancouver, Langley, Surrey, etc... about 200kms with NO issues!

My Bongo is running really well this last week. I towed a tent trailer on top of my ATV trailer approx. 3,600lbs. went up a local steep hill like it wasn't even there! That fairly powerful considering the weight. Temperature remained 190F degrees.

Once I get these little things sorted out, I think I will pleased. My son Joel [a.k.a. Rodney Kim] are planning an ATV trip on July 17 & 18th. The reason I bought the Bongo was to use as a camper because we like a quick getaway to the outdoors.

I'll post some pics on our trips this summer.

Yup! TWO broken wires, well severed actually!
I filmed the fix; after it was all done, my PWR windows didn't work - obviously missed one and must do again... rats!

Hi Dave - when I first got our '95 Diesel it didn't have central locking or folding mirrors. So after reading on here I took the door loom out. There were loads of broken connections in the hinge so I spent an afternoon and bridged them all. Hey presto everything working - was probably the best 'improvement:hours spent' job I've done on the van. Before this I was walking round the van locking/opening each door

I know, but this is the stuff that nickel & dime me to death. Remember, in May I let go of a perfectly good vehicle 2007 Jeep Wrangler which I bought new. Albeit, I am saving $600 per month but lately I spend $2,000 per month rebuilding Bongo.

Cost aside, perceived reliability is a hidden factor that somedays I feel will bite me in the 'jonny'.
