Hi Guys

Got my new Bongo over the weekend and the Temp gauge was working fine, however I noticed last night that is wasnt moving at all and the same this morning, do the gauges stick at all or could it be the temp sensor ?

Any suggestions welcome

Cheers

Tony

check temp sensor is plugged on, drivers side, front end of engine at the top, to test short out the (vehicle) connector to ground and should put it to full temp

Do you have a Mason alarm fitted or has the guauge been undamped? if not it will sit at 11:O'clock most of the time.

from what I have read an undamped guauge or one with a Mason alarm fitted won't move until the engine is nearly warmed up. (mine takes about 15 minutes mixed driving)

I would check connections and fluid level and if possible not use it until someone more knowledgeable than me replies. :)

Yes, you have to lift the drivers seat to get to the drivers side. I take it you didn't lift it to check levels etc when you went to look at it before buying?

No alarm fitted and unsure if its undampened.

While it was working it sat at 11:00 o clock fine.

The coolant level in the header tank is fine though, first thing I checked !

Hi

checked all fluid levels tonight and all are spot on, left the Bongo running for 15 mins while I was doing it and the temp needle went to 11 oclock, as soon as I set off on a drive the needle drops to minimum again, all the radiator hoses are gettng hot and so is the heater, all the fans are kicking in also, could my temp gauge be at fault ?

I'm going to order the coolant alarm this week as well

Cheers

Tony

sounds like someone may have been playing with the thermostat.

just to go over things again.
does it get up to temp (11 oclock) only whilst stationary. then when moving the temp drops off the gauge.
the gauge only starts to register at approx 50 deg c. if the engine is only working around this temp,it will show OFF,then 11 oclock.

No bought privately, but got it for a very good price as no MOT on it, took it to the garage and passed with flying colours, I have already decided I am going to get it booked in for a service and once over this coming week anyway, I believe there is a garage in Bury that does Bongos, only around 3 miles away from me.

I have bills to show all the work thats been done on it for the last 18 months to the tune of around £2k !! including cylinder head, cambelt, brake discs and pads, alternator etc, the guy has owned it from first import in 2007

Just looking forward to getting away in once its been given a clean bill of health.

If something is broke it can always be fixed [-o<

Out of my depth a bit here but if the fans are coming on the guage should be indicating. i thought they only come on at 110C. i don't think I've ever run mine for fifteen minutes stationary but I guess that might well bring them on, other than that mine rarely kick in. Be very careful, what little knowledge of this subject that I do have, I learned the hard way. :)
