sticky patch under drivers side wheel

hi all
I am a Bongo newbie and have just returned yesterday from first Bongo camping trip to Snowdonia - 75 mile trip. When I looked at the Bongo this morning I noticed a sticky wet patch underneath the driver's side wheel - whatever is leaking is clear-ish and slightly sticky, no odour to speak of.
I have checked the brake fluid container and it is full. I had a bit of a feel around underneath the wheelarch and couldn't feel anything obviously more sticky than anywhere else. There are so many pipes and tubes around there I don't know where to start. I have no tools and v little mechanical knowledge....
Any ideas what it could be?
BTW its a '99 2 litre petrol, 52k miles, bought from wheelquick a few weeks ago.
Many thanks for any suggestions!!
Helen

Possibilities:
Normal aircon condensate that has picked up something to make it sticky as it drained out.
Power steering fluid. (check gaiters etc)
Battery acid (very unlikely)
Something you have run over spillage etc.

powersteering fluid would be my guess, check the level in the filler, not sure where this is on the 2 ltr petrol, or you parked on a big fat slug

.
welcome to the forum.

If it's power steering, it should have a reddish tinge to it, the reservoir should be under the drivers seat, pretty sure it's the same for all engine types. The usual leak point is the top pinion seal (follow the steering column through to under the bonnet, under the universal joint at the bottom is a rubber shroud on top of the vertical part of the steering rack, usually leaks from under there), this may help you pinpoint/sort it if so -

a taste test usually tells a lot, but in this case i may just ignore it and see if it/he does it again

More like a good shot I reckon! That's what it turned out to be with mine - an oleo had popped its clogs and was pumping out oil in response to motion. Fit a new pair if so - you don't want unmatched dampers on the same axle
