Bongo Fury

My name is Carol they call me titch. Hubby bought me my first Bongo, it's a P reg. 2litre diesel turbo four wheel drive automatic! Not had it long and new to all this but willing to learn as we have a problem. Drove short distance through built up area, accelerated to join a major road, revs high, loss of power. Still able to drive at low speed. Stopped turned off engine and restarted. Everything was ok, got home safe. This has happened twice. Has anyone got any ideas that may help please,as booked to go to Bedford meet in August.

can you confirm which engine you have please, as they didnt do a 2 ltr diesel .
is it a 2ltr petrol, or a 2.5 dsel.

Hi Carol, it'll be a 2.5l if it's a diesel Did any flashing lights come on on the dash when this happened? You didn't happen to nudge the hold button on the gear lever did you? this would make it drop a gear basically.
It could be down to a fuel issue, ie blocked filter or banjo filter, which can produce gearbox type symptoms.
First thing to do is check the gearbox oil level, which is under the drivers seat towards the rear, angling back, if you check it cold, it should be above the high level mark, it needs to be checked with the engine warmed up & runnning, with the brakes (hand & foot) range slowly through the gears to get the fluid flowing everwhere, then return it to P & check the level with the engine still running. If it needs topping up, you do that throught the dipstick with DIII auto transmission fluid. Then you need to check it's not leaking anywhere. Is it possible there could be a P Reg old model Bongo (not Friendee) type out there, as they were 2 litres.
