Bongo Fury

Hello, I have just purchased a 1995 cc petrol Bongo friendlee from a dealer. (registered 2002).It is in very good condition and has just had the cambelt changed and a full service. Overall, I am happy with the van but the automatic gearbox revs really harshly on the slightest hill - I would worry it would make it up any significant climb. Is this normal with this engine and can I do anything to improve the power. I assume, due to the age, the gearboxes on these models are not smooth? I would welcome any advice/comments. Thanks....

The bongo gearbox is usually a very smooth autobox, but as the 2litre is relatively underpowered for a 2 tonne vehicle, are you being a bit heavy with the right foot?
Worth checking the gearbox oil levels & condition (warm engine running, brakes on, slowly range through the gears, leave in P to check level, dipstick under drivers seat to the rear, if it needs filling its DIII auto transmission fluid & you fill through the dipstick) Oil may need changing in the autobox (not normally a service item) - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=30096
Could be the TPS needs adjusting? could be a fuel delivery issue, has fuel filter been changed & if so is it sealing properly? binding brakes?

I know this is a link to the ATF change for a 2.5 diesel...! However, it may have some bearing..?!!

What were you driving before & are you used to driving an auto?

I was driving a Freelander 2009 Auto - big difference lol

I was driving an freelander 2 09 auto. The garage is saying there are a lot of brown metal particles in the fuel filter. They think the inside of the fuel tank is rusted thus creating all these metal particles.
